Vinyasa 1:
The perfect class for students who want to move more mindfully. This does not mean the class is easy! Vinyasa 1 flows at a natural breath pace, providing plenty of time to find your perfect home within each posture. Great for beginners and experienced students wishing to experience the full expression of the sequence. A yoga block is recommended. These can also be purchased at the studio.
Open to All Levels. Practiced in a moderately warm room.
Vinyasa 2:
This class moves at a slightly faster pace and will begin to push the edges of the vinyasa flow practice. Expect a strongly paced warm-up with fewer alignment cues, guidance into advanced/acrobatic postures and exciting transitions. We will also dive deeper to learn the more subtle practices of yoga including a variety of pranayama, meditation techniques. This class is ideal for those grounded in the basics and ready to learn more. As always, our teachers offer modifications for every Yogi.
Prior experience suggested. Practiced at 90 degrees.
Vinyasa 3:
NYN is thrilled to offer this new class intended for more advanced practitioners who are ready to take their practice to the next level. Students can expect a similar sequence to the NYN Vinyasa 2 class with even less asana cueing from the teacher and more opportunity for personal expression. This class will move at a traditional vinyasa pace while offering additional advanced postures, including arm balances, inversions, binds, and heart openers seamlessly incorporated into the sequence. Because we teach around a similar sequence for 6-8 weeks at a time, students are highly encouraged to attend at least two NYN Vinyasa 2 classes prior to participating in this class.
Practiced with the room heated to 90 degrees with a motivating playlist.
Mindful Vinyasa:
A special version of Vinyasa 1 specifically designed to tap into the mind-body connection and accentuate the more meditative aspects of the practice. This class focuses on proper alignment while moving at a slower pace. With less time spent in down dog or on hands and knees, and with plenty of modification options, Mindful Vinyasa suits all bodies and levels. A yoga block is recommended. These can also be purchased at the studio.
Open to All Levels. Practiced in a moderately warm room.
Yin:
Yin yoga is a practice designed to move past the muscle tissue and open connective tissue. Developed by more active practitioners seeking comfort in seated meditation, yin yoga works primarily with the connective tissue around the spine and lower body. NYN Yin is a traditional yin practice, practiced primarily on the floor and open to all levels (with modifications offered). Sequences are intentionally created around a theme, and postures are held from 2-5 minutes. Yin is a more advanced style of yoga and is suggested for those experienced in yoga or other movement modalities that encourage body awareness. Please have 1-2 yoga blocks, a bolster, a blanket and any other props you may need available. The can also be purchased at the studio.
Practiced in a cool room.
Somatic Yoga
This is a gentle, floor-based somatic yoga practice inspired by the SATYA (Sensory Awareness Training for Yoga Attunement) practice of Tias Little. Designed to cultivate deep awareness, release tension, and restore natural movement patterns, we alternate between engaging and stretching in sliding and gliding movements done lying on the floor. Combined with breathwork, resting, and meditation, you will be undoing and unlearning the patterns, habits, and constrictions that limit the flow of energy in your body. Through Somatic Yoga, it is possible to experience new levels of freedom and spontaneous joy in your body that will spill over into every aspect of your life! This is a fabulous practice for anyone suffering from persistent pain or anxiety.
Open to all Levels. We practice with a blanket placed on top of your sticky mat in order to slide and glide easily. We will provide you with a mat and blanket, or you are welcome to bring your own!
Practiced at a comfortable room temperature. You may wish to wear socks or layers since we spend the entire class on the floor!
Yin to Restore:
A more relaxing version of the NYN Yin class, this class uses every prop in the house to gently open the body and calm the mind. A perfect blend of Yin and restorative yoga. Expect to leave class feeling rested, restored and renewed. Please have 1-2 yoga blocks, a bolster, a blanket and any other props you may need available. The can also be purchased at the studio.
Open to all Levels. Practiced at normal room temperature.
